I have been a picture framer on and off for over 30 years, helping clients with do-it-yourself framing, working as a custom framer, managing picture framing shops, and occasionally framing from my home.
I now again provide picture framing from my home, centrally located in Oakland, California, easily accessible from highways 580 and 880, on a quiet street with plenty of free parking. I have two large home studio areas for the design and construction of picture frames. Since I don't have a storefront, customers make appointments for designing, and later for pickup. My clients find that doing business with me at my house is pleasant and relaxing.
My picture framing customers are primarily buyers and collectors of original art and quality reproductions, as well as contemporary artists. For this reason, I carry only acid-free, conservation mats, and my moulding samples are geared toward contemporary art. My frame selection includes over 300 corner samples in a wide variety of wood, gold, silver, and many other finishes, as well as metal frame (Nielsen) corner samples in many profiles and finishes. My moulding choices come from decades of experience as an artist and picture framer. It is important to me that my mouldings are tasteful and good quality, but I am also aware that frame prices must be moderate for most clients.
As an artist, my primary picture framing concern is the preservation and aesthetic presentation of works of art. Of course, when customers purchase my own art work, I can provide the convenience of framing it for them.
As a frame designer, my art background is critical to sensitive design that will provide joy to you and protection of your art for a lifetime. You can find extensive information about picture framing and frame design on my page: Picture Framing & Art Conservation.
As a businessperson, my goal is to educate my framing customers so they are completely confident in their purchase: they know their art work is being properly treated and understand the reasons for their framing decisions.
I want to help everyone to be able to afford to buy original art and the kind of framing it deserves, so of course I strive to keep prices reasonable. Because I do not have a storefront to maintain, I am able to provide picture framing for substantially less than my yellow-page competitors. I have set my prices below even the least expensive of other local framing businesses, and I offer additional discounts for orders over $350 (a couple of moderate-sized frames with glass and matting). I encourage you to shop around, and I can provide ball-park figures on the phone. I welcome your inquiries, your art, and your business.
