These contemporary sculptures include abstract figurative stone sculpture; small, decorative reliefs and assemblages; and unique, one-of-a-kind ceramic fine art bookends. Hudson's sculptures also include mixed media and textile relief art.
Hudson's abstract stone sculptures are bold but graceful abstracts from the human figure. These sculptures are in soapstone and alabaster, and the sculptor uses both hand and power tools to achieve smooth abstract forms contrasted with interesting textures. The abstract shapes of her stone sculpture are very similar to those the artist uses in her abstract figure painting.
Hudson's latest three-dimensional art is bas relief sculpture. This artist has always been very interested in relief art, especially Assyrian, Greek, and Mayan reliefs, and decorative Islamic tiles. The gallery presents two kinds of small wall-hanging relief sculpture: abstract assemblages of found objects, and a series of intricate, decorative reliefs molded in plaster and painted with many layers of oil paint.
Hudson's small, nonobjective, relief plaques are made of plaster, impregnated with hardening oil for a tough, durable surface. They are then decorated with many layers of oil paint. The resulting small, wall-hanging reliefs are brightly colored, detailed with mixed patterns, but harmonious. These colorful contemporary reliefs are framed in hand-crafed frames custom made for each relief.
The artist has more recently started on assemblage art made from found objects. As usual, balanced and finely-tuned compositions are paramount. In assemblage, a more stable composition, with compartments or horizontal and vertical divisions, help to balance out the serendipity of the found objects.
In addition to these decorative reliefs and abstract sculptures, this contemporary art gallery also offers figures, abstracts, still lifes, portraits, decorative non-objective patterns, and other kinds of art.
