My Reflections Photos

My reflections photos are "reflections" in both senses of the word: reflective in mood and literal reflections of the glass and metal in the urban environment. These photos focus on window reflections, including mannequins in store windows, car reflections, and other reflective subjects in the urban environment. In my photos, I often search for an intriguing use of juxtapositions and ambiguous depth, not the illusion of real space. So I photograph naturally occurring overlaid images, such as objects behind fences, shadows, window reflections, and window display mannequins.

In addition to the reflections and shadows that create natural layering, I also create surreal photographs. Before the widespread use of digital photography, I created in-camera multiple exposures using color slide film. I found that multiple exposures yielded luminous, surreal colors otherwise unobtainable in photography. Almost all my mannequin and surreal photos derive from these in-camera multiple exposures, sometimes enhanced with sandwiched slides or later digital manipulations.
