My figure collages, in which I embed my figures in lively patterns, are unique in contemporary art.  Sometimes using translucent media over a background of collage makes the figure appear to be emerging from the background.  Other times I use small pieces of collage to create a paper mosaic.  Visually, the figure and the collage are in a dynamic interaction.  Many viewers consider the patterns around the figure to be an expression of the subject's thoughts or emotions.

My collages reflect my love of color, texture, pattern, and ambiguous space.  My study of Japanese textiles and my photography, using multiple exposures and superimposed images, led me to overlay and mix patterns in my art as well.  To build up layers, I use collage with painting, pastel, or other media, and focus on the interplay of two and three dimensions.

Even more complex and unusual than my figure collages are my non objective pattern collages, which create dynamic and sensuous worlds of ambiguous depth.  These collages are built up of layers of textures and decorative pieces in a quilt-like manner.
